Walmart retained the Black Friday crown in 2018, with Amazon roaring along in second place but taking the lead on Cyber Monday. Whether Walmart will stay ahead of Amazon in total sales for Black Friday, 2019 remains to be seen. Regardless of the final ranking, however, you can count on excellent deals from the megastore in just about every category, from toys and tools to 4K TVs and Apple smartwatches.
Other merchants watch Amazon’s deals, especially on products like Instant Pots, Dyson vacuums, and Keurig coffee makers that attract hordes of shoppers who often stick around and spend more money. For competitive reasons, Walmart doesn’t advertise specific Black Friday sales ahead of time, but we’ll be watching, updating this page with every great deal we can find. Check back often for the latest updates.
What to expect from Walmart
For clues on Walmart’s best Black Friday deals categories, we can look back over the past 12 months. During the past year, Walmart has focused on electronics, including smartphones, smart home products, notebook computers, tablets, and small kitchen appliances. It’s no secret that Walmart usually has the best selections of 4K TVs and often the lowest prices, too, even on regular shopping days.
If there are items on your wish list that Walmart offers at great prices early on Black Friday, we suggest you jump for them. Even with the massive inventories Walmart and other merchants build for Black Friday, the hottest deals can sell out fast.
If something you want is no longer available online for shipping, however, you might be able to still take advantage of the deal prices through local store pickup for a bit longer. That’s a significant advantage Walmart has over Amazon.
What we saw at Walmart last Black Friday
It’s unlikely that any other store will be able to match Walmart’s prices on smartphones, and the store has historically offered the cheapest large 4K TVs from major brands. For TVs and smartphones in particular, and we’ll add smartwatches this year, too, if they’re on your list, be sure to keep your eyes on Walmart (and this post) as the next few weeks progress.
Last year we saw some incredible deals during the weeks leading up to Black Friday, including some short-term deals on limited quantities of 4K TVs that were better than you could find anywhere, including on Walmart on Black Friday.
We also saw rapid price changes on some items in 2018, notably on Instant Pots, but on some other products, too, including robot vacuums. If the major retailers start price wars on select products, we fully expect Walmart will respond quickly.
We don’t know yet when Walmart will open its real and virtual doors for Black Friday sales in stores and online. Last year Walmart began the weekend sale at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving night in stores and all day online. When we find out Walmart’s opening times, we’ll let you know here.
Walmart deals going on now
Walmart always has many items on sale, but during the next several weeks, the deals will become more frequent. Currently, there are excellent deals on 4K TVs, Apple Watches, smartphones, notebook computers, tablets, headphones, drones, and smart home devices.
